A 200-foot section of timber crib collapsed and 1,600 feet of sheet pile separated from the pier structure. Sheet pile has been reattached and 370 cubic yards of new concrete has been poured.

According to USACE, Erie’s piers ensure opportunities for recreation, fishing, and boating in Presque Isle State Park and on Lake Erie. The north pier has protected the harbor since it was constructed in 1900.

Erie Harbor handles hundreds of thousands of tons of cargo, including limestone, sand and gravel, and salt.

Waterborne transportation facilitated by the harbor supports $33.8M in business revenue, 152 jobs, and $10.4M in labor income to the transportation sector.
