Rohde Nielsen has completed the coastal protection works at Matalascañas Beach in Huelva, Spain, on behalf of Dirección General de Sostenibilidad de la Costa y del Mar.
Within approximately three months, the trailing suction hopper dredgers (TSHDs) Idun R, Thor R and Njord R dredged, transported and nourished approximately 780,000 m³ of sand along 4-kilometer stretch of the coastline.
In addition, nine existing breakwaters were remodeled to improve sand retention.
This project forms part of the Strategy for the Protection of the Huelva Coast, helping to restore and strengthen a beach significantly affected by coastal erosion.
