The company has reinforced some 730 meters of the dike, so that it meets current safety standards. The project was commissioned by Brabantse Delta Water Board and is part of the Netherlands’ national Flood Protection Programme.

The dike has been reinforced with a heave screen made of recycled synthetic materials, a more sustainable and cheaper alternative to traditional steel sheet piling.

Also, the embankments have been raised and netting has been installed to protect the dike against beavers and other burrowing animals. The dike is now strong, easy to inspect, manageable and maintainable. In addition to the use of recycled synthetics, other measures have been taken to realize this project as sustainably as possible.

Strong dikes are essential to be well prepared for the future. The Standhazensedijk dike reinforcement is part of the national Flood Protection Programme that was set up to future-proof flood defences throughout the Netherlands.
