Mark Shaffer wins Vermilion pier deal

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District, awarded a $1.235 million contract to Ohio-based Mark Shaffer Excavating & Trucking recently, for repairs to approximately 800 feet on the lakeside of the Vermilion Harbor west pier in Vermilion, Ohio.

The pier has been significantly damaged by storms, wave action, and deterioration for more than 100 years.

Repairs will ensure continued safe navigation for vessels, said USACE.

Construction is scheduled to begin in Summer 2023 and is anticipated to be completed by Fall 2023.
