The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District, completed the $2.5 million dredging project at Lorain Harbor in just 8 days.
During this period, crews mechanically removed approximately 45,000 cubic yards of sediment from the federal navigation channel, helping maintain safe navigation for Great Lakes commercial vessels, recreational boaters and other harbor users.
The work was completed 33% sooner than planned, in similar fashion to the efficient dredging completed just beforehand in Conneaut. The dredged sediment from Lorain Harbor is being recycled and beneficially used through the City of Lorain.
“Completing dredging in Lorain Harbor in just 8 days is another mark of efficiency, good stewardship of American taxpayer dollars, and the dedication to mission the Corps of Engineers is known for,” said Lt. Col. Aaron Anderson, commander of the Buffalo District. “With this work complete, we’re able to turn our focus to more dredging across Ohio and Lake Erie to keep ports thriving, waterways safe, and the U.S. economy strong.”
Work started September 15 and was completed September 22 under a $2.5 million contract awarded in June 2026 to Michigan-based Walsh Service Solutions.
