After successfully completing the FBH dredging project in Geraldton, Mid West Ports Authority (MWPA) is now using the dredged sand to renourish the northern beaches, and boost coastal resilience.
The sand was stockpiled at Pages Beach during the routine maintenance dredging recently undertaken in the entrance to the Fishing Boat Harbour. This process was essential to maintain safe vessel access and support the continued operation of this important marine hub.
Around 45,000m³ of clean, natural sediment was removed and temporarily stockpiled at Pages Beach after being thoroughly assessed and approved for use in beach nourishment by external marine science experts.
This stockpiled sand is now being transported by road, similar to the Northern Beaches Stabilisation Program, in stages. The process will help nourish the northern beaches, support long-term coastal resilience, and ensure valuable sediments are put to good use.
