The Cook Government has released the design for the planned $4 million universal access fishing platform to be built following the construction of the new northern breakwater at Casuarina Boat Harbor in Bunbury.
Harbor manager and delivery agency, the Department of Transport, is working closely with lead agency the South West Development Commission to build the new breakwater and together they have engaged with a range of peak organizations, State and local authorities to ensure the design of the platform meets the requirements of all users.
David Michael, Minister Assisting the Transport Minister , said: “The construction of the new northern breakwater at Casuarina Boat Harbor underpins the rejuvenation of the harbor as a regional marine hub and it also presents an opportunity to provide a community asset that can be enjoyed by everyone.”
“I thank the peak representative organizations, including Fishability and Recfishwest, and other parties that have participated in the design process for the platform and their ongoing work will ensure the facility meets the needs of all users.”
Regional Development Minister and Bunbury, Don Punch, added: “The current phase of work represents a $78.1 million investment to complete the core harbor infrastructure, which will support many opportunities for development in future.”
To be located on the northern side about one-third along the 460-meter breakwater – currently under construction – the platform will be positioned adjacent to a special precinct to be developed on the breakwater supporting the needs of users, carers and visitors.
