Dredging of the Tweed River entrance – conducted under the Tweed Sand Bypassing project – has been successfully completed.

Over the past few weeks, visitors may have noticed the hopper dredger Trud R doing works in the Tweed River entrance.

The aim of the program is to establish and maintain a safe, navigable entrance to the Tweed River, and restore and maintain the coastal sand drift to the beaches on the southern Gold Coast of Queensland.

A total of 112,323m3 was dredged from the entrance. The dredged sand was placed offshore of Fingal (35,638m3), Duranbah (40,009m3), Snapper Rocks (10,449m3) and Bilinga (26,227m3).
