New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy visited North Wildwood last week to get an update on its emergency beach fill project.
During the visit, Murphy, North Wildwood Mayor Patrick Rosenello and Senator Michael Testa in North Wildwood toured this very important New Jersey Department of Transportation beach dredging project.
The work is set to “ help mitigate erosion, preserving the shore for an incredible Jersey summer ahead ,” according to a statement for Murphy’s office.
The project is being conducted by H&L Contracting and Great Lakes Dredge and Dock (GLDD), the contractor and sub-contractor.
According to the city, the dredge in the ocean will essentially pump out sand and push it out through a large pipe, which will discharge thousands of cubic yards of sand onto the beach.
The contractors currently intend to pump sand on the beach at 7th Avenue, proceeding South to North, wrapping around the jetty at 2nd Avenue and John F. Kennedy Blvd.
