Dune restoration, or sand-based emergency erosion control measures, are being implemented in Pinellas County, Florida.

The County is conducting an emergency shoreline restoration project to mitigate critical erosion caused by Hurricane Idalia.

Sand for the project is being trucked in from an authorized location, placed on the beach and shaped into dunes.

The work first started at Sunset Beach in Treasure Island, moving down to the St. Pete Beach and now to the Belleair Beach.

Anticipated Project Timeline

This project is separate from the federal beach nourishment project that is currently on hold with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
