Dredging operations on the Zone 5 Bypass Channel at Port of Port Hedland, conducted with Jan De Nul's mega trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) Vasco da Gama, are moving forward.
Maintenance dredging removes naturally occurring sediment that builds up over time, supporting safe navigation and efficient port operations.
According to Pilbara Ports, this important work helps keep trade moving through the Pilbara, supporting local jobs, the regional economy and the goods and services relied upon by communities across Western Australia.
Pilbara Ports today announced the planned dredging timeframes, including:
• Port of Port Hedland: Zone 5 capital dredging will last until the end of October,
• Port of Port Hedland: annual maintenance dredging from October to late November,
• Port of Dampier: late November,
• Port of Ashburton: late November to early December.
