The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, has just released the latest update on the Miami Beach Shore Protection Project .
The Corps team is finishing the final stretch of sand placement for the Miami Beach shoreline restoration project. They are presently in the vicinity of 1 Hotel South Beach.
The team will conduct final sand tilling, begin de-mobilizing equipment next week, and continue planting dune vegetation in the next few weeks.
So far, they have placed more than 200,000 cubic yards of sand to strengthen this critically eroded stretch of beach.
To date, 13 loggerhead turtle nests have been relocated from the project area and three nests remain on site, clearly marked off to protect them.
