New electric suction dredger Henk Piet was christened yesterday, Koninklijke Oosterhof Holman said.

The new dredger is 22m long with maximum dredging depth of 37 meters. The dredger has two electric pumps of 600 kWh each.

The use of electric dredges is part of Koninklijke Oosterhof Holman and Nautilus Zandwinning BV’s initiatives to achieve its carbon emission targets.

Also, the most modern systems are present in the wheelhouse, such as GPS and echo sensors, in order to extract the best quality sand in real time and in the most efficient way.

The Henk Piet will be used in the nearby nature restoration project ‘Fochteloërveen Future-proof’ by Natuurmonumenten’.
