The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District recently provided update on the Segment III of the Broward County Shore Protection Project.
According to the Corps, the team has completed sand placement up to the jetty at the north end of Mizzel Eula-Johnson State Park and is transitioning to begin operations at Dania Beach.
So far, the contractor placed more than 350,000 tons of sand on the state park’s critically eroded shoreline. Vegetation planting and demobilization are wrapping up as operations get under way at Dania Beach.
USACE awarded the Segment III Beach Renourishment construction contract to Continental Heavy Civil Corporation. The project area is along the shorelines of Dr. Von D. Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park, Dania, Hollywood, and Hallandale Beaches.
The project is expected to place approximately 887,000 cubic yards of upland sand along the shoreline, with a 100% cost share by the federal government. Where feasible, shore protective dunes will be placed as part of the project.
