As the 5th International Congress “Hydraulic Engineering Structures and Dredging” approaches, the event organizers PortNews Media Group took the opportunity to talk with Mr. René Kolman, Secretary General of the International Association of Dredging Companies (IADC) about the current state of the dredging industry and its key development trends.

In the interview Mr. Kolman discussed the impact of the pandemic on the global dredging market. He also talked about the main challenges that dredging companies face in their everyday operations.

Next, he highlighted some of the largest ongoing dredging projects in the world. At the moment, Boskalis is working on a dredging and land reclamation scheme in Manila (construction of the Manila International Airport). Also, DEME is engaged in the prestigious Abu Qir port project in Egypt and, of course, the land reclamation and extension project in Singapore (New Tuas Port).

Mr. Kolman also shared some light on the IADC’s current activities, the sustainability of dredging industry, use of LNG as marine fuel, etc.
