Whitsunday Regional Council is starting the dredging operations at Whisper Bay, located near the Volunteer Marine Rescue (VMR) in Cannonvale, Queensland.

According to the council’s latest announcement, the project will require the closure of the boat ramp from next Monday, 4 November, until Monday, 11 November 2019.

“Once dredging has occurred, the rigging area will be consumed by the dredging spoil for a minimum of eight weeks while it de-waters,” the statement reads.

“Council will be taking water samples and monitoring the water quality through the duration of these works.”

The dredged material will be contained in geotextile tubes and allowed to drain and dry out before removing the dry material and returning the boat trailer car park to normal.

The works are expected to be completed by the start of December 2019, weather pending.
