Boskalis Nederland has started the construction works on the Fish Migration River within the Afsluitdijk.

According to Boskalis, this four-kilometer-long, meandering tidal river is set to create a natural connection between the Wadden Sea and the IJsselmeer.

The aim of this fish migration river is to allow twelve target fish species - including salmon, sea trout and sea lamprey, as well as river lamprey and eel - to swim freely back and forth between the Wadden Sea and the IJsselmeer, and to provide them with access to spawning grounds along the river.

Equipment deployed for the project includes the crane vessel Aquilla, the transshipment pontoon Zeeleeuw, and various dump trucks, wheel loaders and some other machinery.
