Sand Placement Activities Resume on Hilton Head Island

Business & Finance

Following the passage of Tropical Storm Hermine, Weeks Marine yesterday resumed sand placement activities associated with the Island-wide beach renourishment project, according to the Town of Hilton Head Island’s latest announcement.

Currently, the active work zone is located adjacent to North Forest Beach between Bittern Street and Heron Street.

Work on this segment of the project will advance to the north through North Forest Beach, Shipyard and into southern Palmetto Dunes.

As a result of the forecast track of Hermine, Weeks Marine suspended sand placement activities on Wednesday, August 31.

As part of the Hilton Head Island’s long-term strategy for beach restoration and maintenance, the town began its 2016 $20.7 million renourishment project in June 2016.
