Construction continues on SCPA’s Hugh K. Leatherman Sr. Terminal, located on the former Navy Base in North Charleston.

Since receiving the final permit approvals in 2007, the South Carolina Ports Authority is working hard on the construction of the new 280-acre terminal which will boost capacity in the port by a full 50%.

According to SCPA, opening date of the terminal’s 171-acre first phase is planned for fiscal year 2019.

The new terminal, the biggest-ever investment by SCPA estimated to be worth around $700 million, was named after state Sen. Hugh Leatherman who has been a longtime supporter of the port.
