The overall dredging operations on Oceanside Harbor in California wrapped up earlier this month.
Initial sand placement began September 15, moving south toward Tyson Street Park. Approximately 395,000 cubic yards of sand was dredged from the Harbor channel and placed on Oceanside beaches.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dredges the Oceanside Harbor inlet to maintain safe navigation for vessels. In turn, the City benefits from the sand removed, which is placed on Oceanside beaches.
This year, the Army Corps, in consultation with the City, shifted that dredge from its traditional spring timing to a fall operation. The change is a trial run, and the Corps retains the option to return to the spring schedule if needed, the City said.
Shoaling in the Harbor Channel has narrowed the safe navigation depth for boaters since the Corps' last dredge in May 2026. This operation restores that depth while advancing the new timing for beach sand replenishment.
