The Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, yesterday announced that the Government of Canada is investing in a major harbour project at Tignish Harbour.

This project is supported by funding from Economic Action Plan 2014.

The harbour project at Tignish will consist of the partial reconstruction of a wharf, the construction of a wharf extension and the construction of shore protection.

Additional Prince Edward Island harbour projects will be announced at a later date.

“In communities like Tignish where the fishing industry is part of the daily fabric of society, small craft harbours play a significant role. The Tignish Harbour is homeport to the largest concentration of fishing vessels in Prince Edward Island. This investment is important to support local commercial fisheries and the future of our community,” said Shea.
