Michigan LCV’s Alicia Prygoski (Legislative and Political Assistant) and Erica Bloom (Program Manager), traveled to Washington D.C. last week to join other Great Lakes advocates for the “Healing Our Waters-Great Lakes Coalition annual lobby day”.

With a mission to secure a sustainable Great Lakes restoration plan and the funding needed to implement it, the work of the coalition stretches across the Great Lakes basin and into congressional offices in Washington D.C. The timing to ask for continued funding for the Lakes couldn’t have been better, as U.S. President Obama had just a day before cut funding to the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) by $25 million.

The GLRI is a federal program meant to fund restoration projects like dam removal, river pollution cleanups, and wildlife habit across each of the Great Lakes.
