The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District awarded a $6.6 million contract July 31 to Vortex Marine Construction Inc. of Oakland for maintenance dredging along the Sacramento and Stockton deep-water ship channels.
The contract allows for work to be provided on an as-needed basis over time and up to a specified dollar limit, better known as an indefinite delivery indefinite quantity, or IDIQ, contract.
Maintenance dredging for the two deep-water ship channels occurs annually between Aug. 1 and Nov. 30 to minimize environmental impacts.
The dredging project work will maintain both river channels at their navigable depths of 30 feet for the Sacramento River and 35 feet for the San Joaquin River.
“ Maintaining navigable depths is vital to the full operation of these deep-water channels, and to the economies of both Stockton and Sacramento, ” said Doug Ross, navigation project manager with the Sacramento District’s operations and maintenance branch.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District provides planning, engineering, project management, environmental restoration and construction services to military and civilian customers in parts of eight western states, including California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Oregon and Wyoming.
