Every three years leading experts meet for the World Dredging Congress and Exhibition (known as WODCON), the single most important event for the world wide dredging community to discuss the latest developments of their profession.

In 2013 this major gathering took take place in Brussels, Belgium. The congress was organized by CEDA on behalf of the World Organisation of Dredging Associations with the support of the Government of Flanders.

With the theme “The Art of Dredging” WODCON XX brought together researchers and practitioners from industry, academia and government from all parts of the world (35 countries) to discuss the latest developments on all aspects of dredging and the construction and maintenance of water based infrastructure.

During the Closing Ceremony the Chairman of the WODA & CEDA Environment Commission, Polite Laboyrie (Witteveen+Bos, the Netherlands) presented the “WODA Principles of Sustainable Dredging” an agreed statement by the three associations on 21st century dredging. The three associations operate in three different parts of the world with – sometimes – significant differences in the way dredging projects are planned and implemented.

This statement captures the common denominator to which each association subscribe to in a succinct, comprehensive manner.
