Weeks Marine crews have completed the beach fill phase of the 2026 Beach Nourishment Project in Nags Head, a popular vacation destination on North Carolina’s Outer Banks.
"Using a combination of hopper and cutter dredges, we placed approximately 2.4 million cubic yards of sand to help restore the beach and provide greater protection for dunes, homes, businesses and infrastructure," Weeks Marine said.
Beach nourishment provides protection designed to retain and rebuild natural systems while reducing or preventing the consequences of beach erosion.
"Ongoing maintenance, provided through periodic nourishment, is required to protect our beachfront’s accessibility, natural beauty, and ecological vitality, as well as our community's economic viability," Town of Nags Head said.
