Since arriving in the Gold Coast Seaway a week ago, the split trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) Trud R has been busy.

So far, the dredge has removed approximately 20,000 cubic meters of sand from the Seaway.

According to Gold Coast Waterways Authority (GCWA), most of the dredged sand is being transported offshore to Main Beach, where it will remain within the Gold Coast’s coastal sand system.

"The Trud R is a unique split trailing suction hopper dredger," Rohde Nielsen said. "The hopper splits easily in very shallow water, with a draught of merely 3.8m fully loaded, and thereby unloads the material in a very exact, quick and highly economical way."

The TSHD is able to dredge at depths of 28m, with possibility of extension to 40m.
