Talicud Island Fishers Participate in Environmental Program

About ninety farmers and fishers from Talicud Island here received cash subsidy each amounting to P3,036 after 11 days of participation to the training and community work activities in their respective barangays implemented by the city government of Island Garden City of Samal (IGaCoS) through the City Social Welfare and Development. last .

The “cash for training and cash for work” beneficiaries were small-scale farmers and fishers, in exchange of the training attended and work rendered who got their earnings on November 22 at the District Hall, Poblacion, Kaputian District.

The training took four days focusing on enhancing food production, planting of agricultural products and disaster preparedness and mitigation, while the seven days focused on community and environment related projects such as river dredging and embankment, digging and dredging of canals and drainage, small scale irrigation, tree planting or reforestation, and coastal clean-up and mangrove planting.

“I am so thankful to DSWD for including Samal Island in the subsidy program.This is a big help to our farmers and fisherfolks for this had helped them a lot because they just not only learned, they also earned“, Mayor Aniano P. Antalan said.
