USA: No Funds for Kure Beach Renourishment

The lack of state funding for sand-restoration projects in the coming year’s budget has local officials scrambling for dollars to fund this year’s projects, reports starnewsonline.com.

Kure Beach renourishment project was left out of the 2012-2013 budget.

Kure Beach Mayor Dean Lambeth said that the county likely will pay for the rest with room-occupancy-tax proceeds.

Southeastern North Carolina’s beach communities were surprised by the fact that the state and federal governments stoped contributing to beach nourishment projects, so soon.
