Malaysia: Fishermen File Suit Over Land Reclamation Project

In Pengerang, Kota Tinggi, 578 fishermen filed a suit seeking compensation for land reclamation project connected with the Deep Sea Petroleum Terminal plans.

The law suit states that compensation of RM500,000 should be given to each of the fishermen for their loss of income. It also says that the defendants should be restrained from continuing work until the fishermen’s demands are met or after the compensation is awarded, according to Bernama.

Pengerang Independent Terminal Sdn Bhd, Dialog E&L Sdn Bhd and the Johor state government are the three defendants named in the suit, which was filed at the High Court registrar office, Menara MSC Cyberport, by counsel Mohd Shujaa Halim, of law firm Shujaa Mazri & Co.
