Ahmed Abou Zeid, Egypt’s Ambassador to Belgium and the European Union, said that the involvement of DEME Group in strategic projects in Egypt, spanning the Suez Canal and Abu Qir to Gargoub and green hydrogen, underscores the growing economic partnership between Egypt and Belgium.
Abou Zeid made the remarks this morning, during his participation in a ceremony organized by DEME Group in Antwerp to mark the company’s 150th anniversary, attended by Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever, along with senior officials and political and economic figures, including the Mayor of Antwerp, as well as company executives and representatives of the Belgian and international business communities.
Also, the ambassador expressed his appreciation for DEME’s role in supporting development projects in Egypt, stressing that Egypt looks forward to further strengthening cooperation with the company and expanding the scope of its projects and investments in the Egyptian market.
The ceremony highlighted key milestones in DEME’s 150-year history since its establishment in 1876, as well as the company’s major achievements and projects around the world.
In this context, the event showcased several major projects implemented by DEME in Egypt, including its work on the expansion and deepening of the Suez Canal and its participation in the development and expansion of Abu Qir Port.
The Abu Qir project was described as one of the largest dredging and land-reclamation projects in the company’s history, involving the reclamation of approximately 1,000 hectares of new land and the dredging of more than 150 million cubic meters.
