HE Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Chairman, DP World, has welcomed visiting British Transport Minister, Mike Penning MP to DP World’s head office in Jebel Ali, Dubai.

The two sides discussed DP World’s London Gateway project and the latest developments surrounding the new port and what is set to become Europe’s largest logistics park. The talks were attended by Jamal Majid Bin Thaniah, Vice Chairman, DP World and Group CEO Port & Free Zone World, Mohammed Sharaf, Chief Executive Officer, DP World, and other senior officials and British delegates Mr Penning was a guest of honour at the announcement at London Gateway last month of the fourth quarter 2013 opening date of the huge project, where he spoke eloquently about the importance of London Gateway to the UK and to his home county, Essex.

Mr Penning toured Jebel Ali Port and free zone, which is the model for London Gateway, observing the modern facilities, expertise and operational efficiencies at DP World’s flagship.

The British minister welcomed DP World’s recent announcement on plans to create an extra 1,000 new jobs in the coming months for the UK, 700 new construction jobs and 300 new port jobs as part of the 36,000 jobs to be created by the project over the next few years.

Mr Penning’s visit to DP World’s head office follows that of the UK Minister for Trade and Investment, Lord Green, in September.

HE Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Chairman, DP World , said: “ We are pleased to welcome the Minister for Transport from Britain to DP World’s flagship port here in Dubai. Our strategy for London Gateway is to develop a premier, world class global trading centre reflecting our long term commitment to the UK and to our customers in this market.”

British Transport Minister Mike Penning said: “I was delighted to have the opportunity of seeing for myself the impressive Jebel Ali Port and discussing progress on the London Gateway port and logistics centre. This is an exciting project for Britain, and a clear demonstration of confidence in the long term prospects for growth in world trade and in our own economy.”

From its location on London’s doorstep, the new development will provide cheaper and more efficient supply chains for importers and exporters though a unique combination of a superior location to hinterland markets and port-centric benefits. UK business will soon be able to take advantage of a more cost effective, greener way of getting the nation’s goods to consumers.
