As part of the FY24 Regular Appropriations Bill (Public Law 118-42) as Harbor Maintenance Trust Funds under the Operation and Maintenance Appropriation, the Rock Island Boat Harbor received funds for harbor dredging.

Dredging operations at small harbors such as this ensure recreational craft have safe access to the Mississippi River, said USACE.

During the dredging operations, all access to Sunset Park and Sunset Marina will be limited to the south entrance via 31st Avenue.

The north entrance from 18th Avenue, including Sunset Lane, Skafidas Parkway, and the Great River Trail bike path entrance, will be closed for the duration of the project, the City of Rock Island said.

The funds for this project were an FY24 earmark endorsed by Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois.
