The €152.9m project includes constructing a 326-metre quayside, seven hectares of stacking and handling areas, and carrying out essential dredging and power infrastructure upgrades.

Also, the new quay will feature a reinforced concrete frame with transverse, longitudinal, and rail girders anchored to piles, topped by a concrete slab designed to accommodate STS cranes with a 30-metre rail gauge.

Construction will begin in early 2025 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2027, the Port said.

Once operational, the extension, along with the installation of new STS cranes and redevelopment of existing storage areas, is set to boost the container terminal’s capacity from 1.5m TEU to 1.8m TEU annually.
