According to Fabio Scoccimarro, the Regional Councilor for Environmental Protection, the government has allocated the sum of 5.8 million euros to restore both the access canal at sea and the river/lagoon sections of the Margreth port area.

The procedures for the planned dredging works are currently in the planning phase and will be contracted and carried out during 2025,” said Scoccimarro.

He also added that this transport route has been the subject of numerous interventions over the years and there is constant attention from the Region.

In particular, the most recent intervention of 3.4 million euros, completed in October 2023, allowed the depth of the waterway to be brought back to -7.50 meters.

However, recent weather events have partially reduced the capacity of the newly dredged canal, reducing its depth to -6.80 meters in some sections.

Hence the need for a further important intervention that will be carried out in the coming months through the announced funding.
