This is an investment that not only impacts the boating community but also enhances our park and improves water quality,” Simmons said in a recent Facebook post.

“The dredging should be completed by February 2025 and following the completion, all new docks and piles will be installed in preparation for boating season.”

In 2014, Stamford received funding through the Small Harbor Improvement Projects program (SHIPP) grant, which the city’s engineering bureau used to hire Coastline Consulting & Development LLC, to do the permitting, design and construction administration to dredge the Cove Island Park Marina and channel.

Dredging work is often focused on maintaining or increasing the depth of navigation channels to ensure the safe passage of boats and ships.
