The Director of IHC Mining, Hans Greve explained more on the two custom vessels, concurrently built at the company’s yard in Kinderdijk.

Boasting 6,800 kVA of total power and 1,350 kW of cutter power, they will play a crucial role in the client’s newly extended mine site of the Moma Mine in Mozambique,” said Greve. “This milestone marks the official start of the construction of these electric cutter suction dredgers. It is a true reflection of our commitment and hard work.”

Kenmare operates the Moma Mine, a mineral sands operation in Mozambique, for which IHC Mining has already delivered three dredgers in the past, with the JULIA the most recent (2019).

The two new dredgers will operate at Nataka, a newly extended mine site, expected to operate for several decades.

The two newbuilds are slated for delivery in late 2024 or early 2025.
