The Porto Romano will serve Albania, Kosovo and North Macedonia – significantly boosting trade and regional economic growth.

As the only greenfield port development of its size and importance currently underway in Europe, it aims to set the standard of what’s possible from both an engineering and sustainability perspective.

Royal HaskoningDHV has been involved in the project from the planning stage – starting from a blank canvas to create a bespoke strategy for an active, purpose-built port. During planning and design, the company’s experts went above and beyond to support the project and apply their specialist knowledge to ensure its success.

From vision to reality

Following Royal HaskoningDHV’s successful work on the master plan and detailed design for the Porto Romano, the company has also been contracted to support the construction phase of the project.

Specifically:

  • Tender management for the phase 1 construction contract;
  • Tender management for the assignment of a Technical Supervisor;
  • Contract management and technical assistance during the full phase 1 construction period;
  • Project management and technical consultancy services for other infrastructure projects that are integral to this project’s success.

In addition to quality and value for money, Royal HaskoningDHV is putting a clear emphasis on the environmental and social impacts of the port throughout the construction tender process.

Once complete, the port will increase connectivity in the Western Balkans region, boosting trade opportunities and bringing economic benefits to every nation along its shipping routes. The port will also support the region’s green agenda by championing sustainable infrastructure development and promoting positive social impact.
