The Tampa Study will focus on the deep draft navigation channel and will investigate alternatives to improve ship vessel navigation efficiency, reduce transportation costs, and maintain safety in Tampa Harbor, reported the Corps.

The Federal objective of water and related land resources planning is to contribute to National Economic Development consistent with protecting the nation’s environment, pursuant to national environmental statutes, applicable executive orders, and other Federal planning requirements.

A public scoping meeting will be held within the first few months of the study, under the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA), to present the study scope and to solicit comments from the community, agencies, and stakeholders.
