Business & Finance

St. Johns County and the Army Corps are about to hold a community meeting regarding the South Ponte Vedra and Vilano Beach Restoration Projects.

The kickoff meeting starts at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, at the GTM Research Reserve Visitor Center, 505 Guana River Road, Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.

The sole purpose of the meeting will be to discuss the upcoming South Ponte Vedra and Vilano Beach restoration projects.

These beach restoration projects, also known as the St. Johns County Coastal Storm Risk Management Project, include construction of a 60-feet beach berm along the 3-mile coastline.

Initial construction includes placement of 1.3 million cubic yards of sand, with three periodic nourishment events occurring in 12-year intervals.

The periodic nourishments will place an average of 866,000 cubic yards of sand on the beach. Sand will be dredged from the St. Augustine Inlet System (shoals and channel).
