Milestone Environmental Contracting recently won a contract for the Y Jetty & Lang Cove Remediation Project at the Department of National Defence’s (DND) Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Esquimalt naval harbor.

The Y Jetty & Lang Cove project is the next phase of the DND’s ongoing Esquimalt Harbor Remediation Program, which aims to remediate historical contamination from more than a century of military, industrial and commercial use, and mitigate risk to harbor ecosystems.

The Milestone team is currently wrapping up work on the adjacent C Jetty & ML Floats phase of the harbor remediation project and will begin on the Y Jetty & Lang Cove phase this month.

This next phase of remedial dredging will target sediment contamination that includes heavy metals, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs).

Bill Morgan, senior project manager for Milestone, “I’m looking forward to bringing Milestone’s innovative processes to this next phase of work to remediate Esquimalt Harbor and the continued successful collaboration with the Department of National Defense, Public Works and Government Services Canada and the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations.

The project is valued at $33.7 million and will address 47,100m³ of contaminated sediments.
