The Northern Ocean County Dune and Berm Project has now reached South Seaside Park, New Jersey, (Berkeley Township) the southernmost community along the Barnegat Peninsula, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District said in their latest release.
According to USACE, the works will soon begin at Lavallette Beach.
“The 13-mile project is now approximately 70% complete. NJDEP serves as our project sponsor and Weeks Marine Inc is our contractor,” said USACE.
The project is a partnership between USACE and the state of New Jersey.
Weeks Marine will be using multiple dredges to complete the beachfill contract. Three hopper dredges (R.N. Weeks, B.E. Lindholm and Magdalen) are being used during construction.
Once the construction is completed, the project is designed to reduce damages to physical infrastructure from the future coastal storms that will impact Northern Ocean County.
