VIDEO: New Canal – Icon of the Future

Business & Finance

Records were broken, vessels were mobilized from every corner of the globe, and work was carried out non-stop. The construction of the new Suez Canal in Egypt was like a rollercoaster ride, said Van Oord.

The new Suez Canal has been completed in record time thanks to several consortia from the global dredging scene.

In just 9 months, the 193-kilometer-long canal has been extended with a parallel waterway and deepened entirely over a length of 70 kilometers, which has reduced the 14-hour waiting time by half.

Egypt is now gearing up for the official inauguration of the new channel on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at an event that will draw the participation of heads of states and official delegations from around the world.
