Broadkill Beach Project in Full Swing

Business & Finance

Beach nourishment works that will extend Broadkill Beach for additional 150 feet seaward are in full swing now, with approx 2 million cubic yards of sand expected to be added to the beach during the project.

The project, being performed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and New Jersey-based Weeks Marine, comes as a part of the Delaware River Main Channel Deepening scheme. The beachfill work includes placement of dredged material onto about 15,000 linear feet of Broadkill Beach.

Weeks Marine is currently pumping sand in the middle portion of a nearly 3-mile project zone, which spans from Alaska Avenue south to Beach Plum Island Nature Center.

All dredging works and services under this project are expected be completed no later than 15 April 2016.
