The Regional District of the Central Okanagan (RDCO) Board Chair Robert Hobson was in Okanagan Centre in early September to announce support from Canada’s Infrastructure Improvement Fund construct a new north breakwater at Okanagan Centre Safe Harbour Regional Park.
Joining Chair Hobson was the Honourable Michelle Rempel, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, along with the Honourable Ron Cannan, Member of Parliament for Kelowna—Lake Country and Mayor Baker to announce the $150,000 grant from the Government of Canada.
RDCO Parks staff have recommended that construction be completed in phases conditional upon financing due to the size and cost of the project. However, the federal grant of $150,000 must be used before March 31, 2014 thus the RDCO has provided additional funding of $123,600 to the grant to begin phase 1 as soon as possible.
