International consultancy, engineering and project management service provider Royal HaskoningDHV has launched a new representative office in Myanmar, one of the world’s youngest democracies.
Royal HaskoningDHV was one of the first Dutch firms to head back to Myanmar in December 2011 and recently won its 6th assignment to design new river terminals in Mandalay and Yangon.
The new office location in Yangon means Royal HaskoningDHV can continue to develop its professional engineering and environmental services in Myanmar, while expanding its local presence.
For the past 18 months, Royal HaskoningDHV has been involved in terminal feasibility studies and designs for new industrial plants that will manufacture consumer goods. It is also looking at the potential for carrying out water management assignments, including flood protection.
Martijn Coopman, Royal HaskoningDHV’s Director of Ports and Waterways for Southeast Asia , comments: “ Myanmar was opened up to the Western world just over a year ago, and is on everyone’s radar. However it is not an easy country to operate in at the moment, as there are many things that still need considerable development .”

This means we can assist multinationals by helping them assess and manage those risks and secure a position for when the country really does take off. This is widely expected to happen once the elections in 2015 have taken place. ”
By establishing a permanent base in Myanmar, Royal HaskoningDHV is further strengthening its position in Southeast Asia, while helping Myanmar become another successful Asian Tiger economy.
