Over the past few months, a large amount of sand had washed into the access channel to the ‘Puerto Chiapas’ from the Pacific Ocean, threatening the port’s accessibility and causing potential disruptions to the container trade.
To prevent this, Boskalis' trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) Gateway had to dredge the sediment from the access channel and the basin.
This campaign has now been successfully completed, and the Gateway has since begun work in Ensenada, where she will be conducting capital dredging in the access channel and turning basin over the coming weeks.
