Metrans Takes Over Port of Krems

HHLA’s subsidiary Metrans has acquired the company which operates the trimodal container terminal in the Austrian port of Krems on the Danube.

The company was taken over from Mierka Donauhafen Krems GmbH & Co. KG. The terminal will now provide a direct link between the German seaports and the economic region of Lower Austria.

The new site at Krems allows us to expand our Metrans network with a terminal that is strategically well-placed in the centre of Lower Austria. It offers excellent conditions for extending Austrian traffic to and from the European seaports we serve,” explained Jiri Samek, Managing Director of Metrans.

For Hubert Mierka, Managing Partner of the long-established Mierka Donauhafen Krems GmbH, Metrans is therefore an ideal partner for the further development of the Danube port: “Together with Metrans, we want to build on our position as a multimodal freight station offering tailor-made logistics solutions by strengthening maritime logistics here. Metrans’ broad portfolio of services and customer neutrality match our business model perfectly.”
