Khalifa Port has smashed the Abu Dhabi record for the total number of containers moved in a day. The MSC Livorno managed to load and offload 2,500 TEUs (containers) within 24 hours.

The Livorno is the sister ship of the MSC Bari, the first container ship to officially use Khalifa Port’s semi-automated container terminal, unique in a radius of 5,000 kilometres. The MSC Bari played a central role as Khalifa Port celebrated the commencement of commercial operations at the container terminal on September 1st.

Capt Mohamed Al Shamisi, EVP, Ports’ Unit, ADPC commented: “ This is excellent news for Khalifa Port as it shows how efficient our operation is. This bodes well for the future and we look forward to constantly setting new records. ”

Martijn Van de Linde, CEO, Abu Dhabi Terminals (ADT) which operates the container terminal at Khalifa Port, added: “ We are delighted at the performance recorded by all teams involved in the operation. We are committed to providing our customers with world-class, cost-effective, and highly reliable and efficient services that meet and exceed their expectations.”
