East West Interconnector Project Completed, Irish Sea

Working under a joint venture for NSW, Osiris Marine Services & Nordic Offshore Marine mobilised the DP1 barge the Atlantis with a full survey/diving/cable repair complimented by subcontractor Reef Subsea Dredging & Excavation’s twin R2000 shallow water controlled flow excavation tool.

The East West Interconnector Project (EWIP) involved the installation of two HVDC and a Fibre Optic cable 186km’s along the Irish Sea bed securing energy for the future and also giving Ireland’s expanding wind power networks the opportunity to export energy to the UK.

The remedial work scope consisted of deburying and repairing the Fibre optic cable along with the installation of 94 subsea mattresses at different points along the cable route.

Alexander Bornemann, Project Manager from NSW said: ”Taking all the challenges caused by seabed and weather conditions during the execution of work into account, NSW made the right selection of sub-contractor. Osiris Marine Services convinced by high performance, flexibility on site conditions as well as good maintained and up to date equipment.”

“To react to market forces and focus on providing a real solution to real problems, it’s clear that identifying and developing strategic partnerships is the key to providing end clients with the solution they need when it comes to subsea projects. With that in mind, working together with Nordic Offshore Marine and also Reef Subsea’s project teams both on and offshore has proven to be a great marriage of convenience that offered NSW a full project solution,” added Luke Ansell, Business Development Manager from Osiris Marine Services.
