USA: Dredging Underway at San Francisco Marina Yacht Harbor

The San Francisco Marina Yacht Harbor is undergoing the first major upgrade since 1963.

The Recreation and Park Department began renovating the West Harbor in February 2011 and is slated to complete the work by December, according to sfexaminer.com.

Work includes replacement of docks, construction of two new breakwaters, dredging and upgrades to the Harbormaster’s building. The work costs nearly $26 million, which includes a $23.5 million loan from the California Department of Boating and Waterways.

The Recreation and Park Department is seeking approval to spend $1 million to construct an additional 36 berths at the West Harbor for a total of 379. The additional berths are expected to generate $157,000 annually in licensing fees. The berths would be located along the breakwater at the entrance to the West Harbor near the Golden Gate Yacht Club.
